Minimum requirements

There are mimimum grade/age requirements as follows: each player

  • who is at least 12 years old at ANY point in 2020 AND

  • who have successfully passed a grade 4 (strings) or grade 5 (wind/brass) exam [NOTE: for some instruments, such as flute and clarinet, we may have to temporarily raise the entry-level for new players from time to time to maintain balance in the orchestra]

will automatically qualify to play in the YPT, provided you register early enough (before 6 February 2020 for the first concert). All players who do not meet either the minimum age or minimum grade requirement (including players who do not normally sit exams) may still qualify to play in the orchestra, but this will depend on a number of things, including age/grade but also on the orchestra's needs (realistically, this means it will be tougher for flutes and clarinets to get in than for e.g. double bass, oboe, horn, etc). Please register anyway, and we will assess it with your teacher!

SUBSCRIPTION

To play in the orchestra you will need to pay a subscription. Last year subscription was $20 per player per concert ($40 per year). We do not want to miss out on players for reasons of money, so if your family struggles with subscription, please contact us and I'm sure we can work it out. Note that the concert itself are usually free entry.

REGISTRATION

To register, please download the registration form below (PDF or DOC), fill it out, and e-mail it back to info@ypt.co.nz. If you meet the minimum grade requirement (see above), you will also need scan and e-mail a copy of your highest grade diploma. If you do not meet the minimum grade requirement, there is no need to do this.
